Michoacán, Mexico · Oct 31 – Nov 5

For you,

I’m starting something special for the first time, and I would love for you to be a part of it.

We’re going to spend six days in Michoacán with the marigolds and Mexican music that feels like home. You’ll see more candles than you’ve ever seen in your life.

I’ll share with you an experience that I’ve been building behind the scenes for the last five years. It combines everything that poetry, death, and what my last three years working in prisons have taught me. I plan on building the rest of my life around this, to help people feel more connected to their own humanity in a way that our minds have forgotten and our souls have been craving.

There’s no other way I’d rather celebrate my 35th year of life. This beautiful, fucking hard life. Miserable at times yet full of miracles and moments that memories never quite do justice.

If I do this right, you’ll leave knowing what matters most to you right now. What’s worth saying out loud. What’s worth releasing.

Most of us carry a quiet grief, a silent truth, and a hidden self. This week is built to move you through all three.

I.

Death, Differently

We’re going to grieve differently than you ever have, with joy in it and beauty in it, held by communities who know how to welcome their dead home instead of flinching from them. We’ll build an altar with our own hands, and bring an offering to a loved one who’s passed, sharing what they still mean to us.

II.

Spoken Truth

We’ll write medicine poems together, truths straight from the heart, without your mind getting in the way. You’ll share yours, and we’ll celebrate each other for writing it, feeling it, and letting it be heard.

We’ll have a few dedicated themed workshops. On the last night, we’ll have a special witnessing ceremony. This will be the night that reaches into your bones and becomes a part of you forever.

III.

Deep Belonging

We’ll close in circles, telling the stories we don’t usually tell and being witnessed doing it. My hope is that you walk away feeling more in love with life, more able to look at the hard parts with a smile, and more like yourself than you have in years.
