Witnessed Series

RELINQUISH™
You don't need closure.
You need somewhere for the truth to go.
Tuesday, September 22, from 5:30 to 7:30pm Pacific, I'm holding a free Medicine Poetry Ceremony™ for people carrying something true they haven't said.
The grief you buried.
The anger you masked.
The truth you swallowed.
The love you never expressed.
The peace you're only pretending to have.
The truth that gets said everywhere except to the person it belongs to.
Cost: Free
The Promise
In two hours, you'll write the truth your body has been holding and give it somewhere to go, without needing the other person to hear it, answer it, understand it, apologize for it, or approve it.
Say what needs to be said, even if they never hear it, so your peace stops depending on their response.
This is closure without the conversation.
The person you're waiting on may never give you peace. You want to say it somewhere real enough that your body believes you. So the loop stops. So you can actually return to your life without an endless loop of processing.
You want to find out that silence, rejection, or indifference can hurt for a day without owning the next six weeks.
Swallowed Truths Come In All Shapes And Sizes
- Words never said to someone who you are grieving.
- The teacher who humiliated you when you were young.
- The girl you liked but couldn't tell until it came out too late, too dramatic, too desperate, and too much.
- The family dynamic where challenging your parents’ limiting beliefs keep you the villain.
- The incarcerated person who is writing a letter of remorse
- The person who is dying and urgently making amends
What Happens In The Ceremony
We'll begin by settling in with grounding and presence.
I'll share a story and a couple poems to warm the room before giving you one prompt.
You'll have 15 minutes to write without editing, judging, fixing, or trying to make it "good". Good is not the point. Honest is the point.
This is where the mind usually wants to interfere.
"That's too harsh."
"That sounds stupid."
"That's too basic."
I'll get you going in a way that helps you bypass this with ease.
After you write, I'll invite one or two people to share with the whole room. Only if they want to. No one will be pushed.
And when someone shares, we don't fix them.
We don't coach them. We don't give them advice.
We witness them and celebrate their humanity. This too is the medicine.
Then you'll move into a smaller room where everyone gets the chance to read what they wrote out loud and have it received. Again, you never have to share. But it is encouraged.
We'll come back together for reflection, questions, and a simple integration practice so you have some direction on what to do with what's opened.
Then we'll close with grounding, a final poem, and an invitation.
Why Poetry
For a long time, every moment of my life that was missing peace was missing because of words I couldn't say.
Then I found poetry.
And I don't mean literary or slam or political poetry.
I mean poetry as medicine. Poetry as the language of truth.
I mean writing from the place in you that knows exactly what to say before your mind edits it into oblivion.
Over the last three years, I've spent more than 1,000 hours facilitating emotional intelligence and poetry in maximum security prisons. I was the lone facilitator in rooms with 25 to 50 men, learning what it means to hold truth without fixing it, judging it, or running from it.
I've sat bedside with people facing their final transition as a death doula.
I've seen every shade of humanity and learned this over and over:
There is nothing wrong with you.
There is nothing to fix.
But there are things inside you that need somewhere to go.
Because if you can't honor yourself with a poem, you for damn sure won't honor yourself when it comes to the people, conversations, boundaries, grief, love, and truth that actually matter in your life.
This Workshop Is Not For You If
- you're not willing to say something that scares you.
- you need trigger warnings. The part of you that needs a warning is welcome from minute one.
- you are hoping for a lineup of social justice poems. This is purely focusing on the inner world and things we can move through and release during our time together.
- being around vulnerability makes you sweat.
This Is For You If
- your throat knows your truth before your lips do
- your sleep knows
- your stomach tightens when their name appears
- you've told your journal, your best friend, your therapist, and your cat at 11:11am, but your body still thinks the conversation is unfinished.
- you keep calling it moving on, but your nervous system is still waiting for the conversation to happen.
- you're scared that one day there won’t be an opportunity to have this conversation
- If you're tired of your peace being held hostage by someone else's capacity, come.
After The Ceremony
If something opens during the ceremony and you want support making sense of it, you'll be invited to book a free one-on-one Integration Call with me after. A private conversation to help you understand what moved, what's still speaking, and whether deeper support feels right.
When you register, I'll send you the call details by email.
You'll also get access to recordings from the previous RELINQUISH series if you want to prime your creativity before we gather. Watch one or a few. Or none. These are totally optional!
Bring a notebook and pen if you can. (Handwritten is better for this).
The Cost
The ceremony is free.
The cost is two hours of your time and energy and enough courage to stop abandoning yourself during a moment that matters.
You won't be asked to send the poem or to confront anyone in your life. This is between you and poetry.
How To Join
- Step 1Enter your email and register for RELINQUISH™.
- Step 2I'll send you the call link and the previous recordings if you want to drop in before we meet.
- Step 3Show up live on Tuesday, September 22 at 5:30pm Pacific with your notebook, your pen, and a truth you've been carrying.
I'll meet you there.
What People Have Said
“It is rare that you can find a speaker who simultaneously makes people feel at ease and also makes them feel safe enough to share their deepest feelings in a room full of strangers. David has a gift that not only changes lives, but takes them to a higher level of peace and healing.”
“Of particular significance to me is David’s willingness to touch the parts of life that are hard to look at – incarceration, death, marginalization, sadness and so much more. He looks at those parts of life with his unique and very deep perspective that inspires others to do the same.”
“You know how like sometimes you don't notice that an air conditioner has been on until it turns off? I got one of those going on in my brain. There's a little bit of peace and quiet inside my head that I didn't know that there was noise occupying the space.”
“You created a safe container for my pain to exist, to be fully seen, and to give it permission to leave…You helped me sit with my pain in a safe space. That’s the transformation I received. There are no amount of money or amount of words I can give you to thank you enough.”
“Before, I was writing from a place of what I should write. Now I’m writing from joy—what I want to write.”
“I never imagined how easy it could feel to talk openly about personal topics with strangers until I attended his poetry retreat.”
FAQ
- I've never written poetry before.
- Good. this isn't about being a "good" poet. it's about using poetry as medicine. beginners and skeptics often have the most profound breakthroughs because they're not trying to make it "art."
- What if I can't make all the live calls?
- All sessions are recorded. but the live experience is where the magic happens. Show up live if you can.
- I'm in therapy. Will this conflict?
- This is complementary to therapy, not a replacement. many participants find that poetry helps them access emotions and insights that talk therapy alone doesn't reach.
- What if I'm not comfortable sharing my poem?
- You're never forced to share. but I will gently encourage you to. the transformation happens in the sharing—in being witnessed and celebrated for your truth. this is relinquishing in action.
- What happens after the ceremony?
- You’ll have the recordings, the integration practice, and the option to book a free one-on-one Integration Call with me if you want support making sense of what opened.
